The photograph shows a forest in autumn. The ground is completely covered by a thick layer of dry, orange-brown leaves. In the foreground, on the left, is a large, wide, old tree stump, its top flat and also covered in leaves. The trunk is weathered, with dark, rough wood, and its thick roots protrude slightly from the ground. Around the stump stand numerous tall, slender trees with smooth, gray trunks, most of them leafless, allowing for a great sense of depth between them. On the right, a small, shallow stream meanders, its clear water running among the fallen leaves and soil. The atmosphere is calm, cold and quiet, typical of a forest in the middle of autumn.
