As we were just poodling along, enjoying being in this landscape, we had time to notice things, so we saw these blue cranes at one of the little shallow pools that have formed.
And of course they are South Africa's national bird, so an important sight.
But on to today's section of the trip.
We left out accommodation last night, near The Three Sisters. All the little hills, or koppies as they are known, look the same to the uninitiated, but we think these are the three sisters.
We're pleased to say that some South African roads still have these little roadside rest areas, of varying quality and cleanliness. They must be very convenient for those self-contained travellers who bring refreshments with them. We restrict ourselves to plenty of liquid in the car.

We'd forgotten the proud custom of many villages and towns which have a nearby hill of proclaiming themselves to the world by white-painted stonework visible from afar.
Some wag really must put the wrong name up there some time, just to see what will happen.
I posted earlier, while we were there, about the delightful little coffee stop we found.
We are now in springbok country, and saw many of them. They are, of course, a significant symbol of South Africa. But we were to see another of its symbols later in the day. Bear with.....
Onward, northward, on endless roads again. But we started noticing a green tinge to the area, and we think they must have enjoyed some recent rain
This is also the land of merino sheep. It's possible that some of herself's yarn may come from these flocks.
