Playing this little oddity today. I was excited to pick it up #thrifting because I recognized the name "Hugo Montengro" and because I'm a sucker for the red/black/cream poster aesthetic.

But after I got it home, I noticed (what Google translate says are) the Chinese characters. I seemed to find this on Discogs (https://www.discogs.com/release/4397979-Hugo-Montenegro-And-His-Orchestra-Music-From-The-GoodBad-And-The-Ugly-A-Fistful-Of-Dollars-For-A-Few).

Does anyone know anything about "Hua Sheng" as a label? Was this some kind of import? Or bootleg?

Last one for today to give the ultrasonic cleaner a rest. The Killermeters started out in 1977 as a punk band but moved quickly on to playing for the mod scene in ‘78. Songs like SX 225 became mod/scooter rally classics. #vinyl #xp #TheKillermeters

Things were moving on in the mid 90s and the new mod interest inspired by Blur and britpop was very different. The Itch had other ideas though. This album emulates the sound of ‘79 and does a pretty good job of it. #vinyl #TheItch #xp

Scoop is the first of three LPs (Another Scoop and Scoop 3 released in 1987 and 2001 respectively) containing The Who and solo demos from Townshend’s vast catalogue. #AlbumReview #xp #vinyl

Pete Townshend – Scoop

We kick off with an acoustic version of So Sad About Us, complete with intro by Pete himself. A lovely demonstration of Townshend’s guitar prowess. But, alas, at 2:26 it abruptly stops and he…

Nine Below Zero from 1981. One of the mod revival bands from the time that had longevity and reinvented themselves as a blues/rock band. This, however, is pure mod with some classics like ‘One Way Street’. #vinyl #NineBelowZero #xp

My original copy from 1982 and it’s a little tired, but plays very well. One day I’ll seek out a better copy. Never been reissued, it’s probably my favourite Secret Affair LP. #vinyl #SecretAffair #xp

It’s 2025 and I’m recording 90’s techno from vinyl to minidisc using a late 1950’s era turntable and a mid-1980’s Technics stereo system. This is how you do it. Spotify eat your heart out.

This one is from 1982 and it’s the official fan club album from Squire. I was so envious of my wealthier friend who owned this back then, but I had to wait until 2015 when it was reissued in this limited edition of 500. I snapped one up! #vinyl #NowPlaying #xp

Continuing the cleaning/playing…. This is 1985’s Wild Child from The Untouchables, on Stiff Records. Self proclaimed as ‘America’s first ska band’. They called themselves ‘mods who played ska’. This LP arrived a little too late to have any real impact on the UK mod revival scene. Good album though.
